Some destinations are an absolute delightful surprise! Which is exactly what Loreto, Mexico and Villa del Palmar Islands of Loreto was for us.
My hubby and I heard about this somewhat remote Baja, California destination from friends who’d been there before. They loved it, highly recommended it, and said the only place to stay is Villa del Palmar Islands of Loreto. So, we finally decided to do it. We booked the vacation club for a week and are more than happy to proclaim it was everything our friends said it was…and so much more.
The oceanfront beach resort hotel Villa del Palmar Islands of Loreto is remote, though only about 30 minutes from the small airport. It only took us 10 minutes to get through customs and immigration before grabbing our transport to the property on magnificent Danzante Bay.
About hotel Villa del Palmar

Just as the evening sky lit up in a myriad of sunset hues, our shuttle arrived at our beautiful vacation home. It was even more impressive than the photos we’d seen.
Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto is located on a serene, crystalline, picturesque bay. The all-suites vacation club resort is the only property in this quiet, but stunning side of Loreto. Pristine white-sand beaches, scenic vistas, and “desert meets the ocean” natural surroundings are a siren call to nature lovers.
Gorgeous Resort Villas

The luxury, but unpretentious beach resort hotel Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto tucked away on the shores of the Sea of Cortez boasts accommodations ranging from deluxe to premium suites featuring studios, one-to-three-bedroom suites, and penthouses. Even studios are larger than your standard hotel room with 645-square-feet of space that can sleep two adults and two children, or three adults.
Our one-bedroom roomy 1,300-square foot premium suite included a master bedroom with a queen-sized bed, spacious master bath with a separate tub and walk-in shower. The bedding was soft and comfy and the mattress was perfect for curling up into a quick and easy slumber. The one-bedroom suite can accommodate two adults and two children, or four adults.
The spacious living room also contains a queen-size sofa bed and plenty of seating, along with a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, and additional full bath just off the kitchen. One-bedroom suites and larger also offer an in-room washer and dryer which is so helpful, and makes packing so much easier.
We loved the classy but understated décor, blending so perfectly with our natural surroundings. Our private balcony was furnished with a table, chairs, and lounge seating. The best part was the gorgeous views of the pool and ocean from the lanai. The perfect place to toast our amazing getaway here along with the sunset.
Villa del Palmar’s Impressive Amenities

Guests of the resort have access to five outdoor pools tiled to collectively resemble a sea turtle. The property also sports a large hot tub and fully-equipped fitness center. A tennis and pickleball court are also available for use. The 39,000 square foot Sabila Spa and Wellness center is a popular way to indulge and relax in the magnificent surroundings of Loreto’s Danzante Bay.
Kayaks, paddleboards, and snorkel gear are available for rent from an activity hut right on the beach. And we truly loved our kayak adventures on the crystalline, calm waters of the bay.
But probably the top amenity available is the opportunity for golfers to test their swing on the unbelievably stunning TPC Danzante Bay. This tournament players club course perched high above the islands of Loreto has been named Mexico’s best golf course by World Golf Awards. Golf Digest awarded the Villa del Palmar Islands of Loreto property the best golf resort in Mexico and Central America. And the course, nestled among the desert mountains is only available for owners and guests of the resort.
Dining at the Resort

Fully equipped kitchens are included in all full-suite villas; however, the Deluxe Suite only contains a kitchenette. So, choice of accommodations may be dependent on how much cooking you plan to do while in Loreto.
Whether you choose to cook or not, the resort sports four amazing restaurants and an option for purchasing an all-inclusive dining plan. We found the cuisine to be extremely satisfying, whether it was the fine dining steakhouse and seafood restaurant, the Italian ocean-front eatery, casual buffet-style marketplace, or clubhouse offering stunning views of the Loreto Bay, Loreto islands, and Sierra de la Giganta Mountains.
The Palmita Market is also on site for those who need to purchase a few pickup groceries, personal items, or souvenirs.
Access to the Concierge Team
Whether it’s needing to rent a car for the day to explore, book a fishing, sailing, or other outdoor activity, or just have questions about the resort itself, the concierge team located in the lobby is an extremely helpful group. It was always top-notch service with a sweet smile.
Discovering the Magic of Mexico’s Pueblo Mágico

It’s of no surprise that the Islands of Loreto were designated one of Mexico’s Pueblo Mágicos (or magic towns). This special designation is granted to those communities that over time have maintained their original architecture, traditions, history, and culture, or have great relevance to the history of Mexico.
This is why we absolutely loved exploring Loreto’s “Old California” mission town, its picturesque mountains where hiking opportunities abound, and the invaluable treasures of its massive offshore National Marine Park. The simplicity of life is Loreto’s appeal. Its people are happy and helpful, and there is no end to the bountiful gifts that Mother Nature has bestowed upon this fabulous piece of Mexican paradise. Exploring on horseback affords a special perspective on this special place.
For us, a vacation that allowed us to reconnect with nature in such a glorious way ended up being the perfect plan. No wonder our friends loved this hidden gem so much. We loved it too. And truly enjoyed our relaxing and unforgettable stay at hotel Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto.
As our plane took off from Loreto, we could only smile and remind ourselves that “we can always go back again.” And we plan to do just that. Next time with family or friends again at the resort hotel Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto.
