Wine may have put Temecula, California on the map, but, with its history, majestic landscapes, foodie scene, and friendly people, it’s no wonder it’s such an ideal destination for a weekend getaway. When we were looking for a vacation rental in Temecula wine country, Tuscan Temecula Hideaway had everything we were looking for and more!
About Temecula Wine Country
Located just an hour north of San Diego, Temecula translates to “where the sun breaks through the mist” in Spanish. And it’s a combination of these two vital elements that makes Temecula such a fast- growing, award-winning wine region.

The sun shines an average of 276 days a year. Cooling mists drift in from the Pacific Ocean only 15 miles away making this a perfect place to grow grapes. And Pacific breezes bless Temecula with crisp, clean air and miles of visibility.
Weekends are extremely popular in Temecula as wine lovers come to visit and sample the many fine offerings of the area’s 40-plus wineries. Choosing a place to stay that’s a little off the beaten path is a great way to be close enough to all that’s happening, yet provide a retreat where guests can unwind and relax.
About the Tuscan Temecula Hideaway
Just on the outskirts of wine country, a rustic winding country dirt road led us to a twenty-foot wrought iron and mahogany gate—the entrance to Tuscan Temecula Hideaway. Upon entering a code in the keypad, the gate slowly opened as a welcoming beacon for our memorable weekend visit. A picturesque palm-fringed driveway up a hill lead to the lovely home.

Isn’t it true that “In life, when stars align, magic happens?” This is the beautiful story of Sheree and Blake Slaughter, owners of the Temecula Hideaway. The Blakes, who live in San Diego loved their weekend getaways to wine country. When a bank-owned property suddenly became available here, they purchased the home.
Sheree says “With views to die for,” “we knew this is what we’d been looking for.” And it was close enough to home that they could maintain and manage the property. A prior trip to Italy’s wine country provided the inspiration for the home’s most fitting Tuscan wine-themed décor.
Being in the construction industry, Blake was confident he could handle the much-needed renovations for what once was only a two-bedroom home. Private and out in the countryside, yet close enough to Temecula’s many vineyards, the now 4 bedroom/3 bath, 3,000 square-foot ranch that can sleep up to eight guests, is situated on five sprawling acres with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and scenic Temecula Valley.
The vacation home is spacious, comfortable, cheery and perfect for couples, families, wedding parties, or girls’ getaways.
Bedrooms and Baths in Tuscan Temecula Hideaway

The roomy master-bedroom suite has a king-sized bed and walk-in closet. A spacious tiled master bath includes a soaking tub, separate shower, toilet area and twin sinks. A side door from the bedroom leads to a lovely expansive backyard with stepping stone walkways.
Two additional bedrooms just down the hall from the master suite sport queen beds and a shared bath with a shower-tub combination. A fourth bedroom off the living room has two extra-long twin beds. Each room is tastefully decorated carrying out the Tuscan wine theme. And while the unique angular layout of the home encourages group engagement and gatherings, it also ensures everyone has their privacy.
In addition, there’s plenty of storage space and closet room, and every guest amenity has been considered. Entries in a guestbook include thoughtful reviews and notes of thanks. It’s obvious guests have been happy with their stays at this wine country hideaway.
Living Room and Kitchen in Tuscan Temecula Hideaway

We loved the spacious living room’s comfy reclining leather sofa chairs with cup-holders, and a 50-inch flat screen TV and DVD player.
A binder located on the coffee table included instructions for operating everything from the thermostat to Jacuzzi, and internet password. Helpful suggestions are included about what to see and do in the local area. Guests visiting in the fall or winter will welcome the electric fireplace.
A lovely welcoming note and bottle of wine greeted us in the kitchen. Many will agree that the kitchen is the heart of the home, and this is certainly the case in this abode. The faux stone wallpaper covering one wall of the kitchen appeared so real, we had to touch it to be sure. Cabinets contain everything needed for simply warming items in the microwave to preparing a five-course gourmet dinner.

I love to cook and could easily envision a future get-together of friends around the kitchen island; sipping wine and laughing as we make our own homemade pasta or prepare a seafood feast.
Even the convenience of waking up to fresh-brewed coffee and muffins was a treat. We relaxed in the breakfast nook’s high-top table and watched as colorful hot air balloons soared over the vineyards in the distance.
A formal dining room off the kitchen can comfortably seat eight. And there’s even more seating on an outdoor patio just a step down from the kitchen. A BBQ grill around the corner is convenient for outdoor cooking.
Romance is in the Air

The lighted gazebo was perfect for toasting the sun setting behind the mountains. Under a star-studded moonlight sky, we relaxed in a Jacuzzi that can accommodate eight. With no street lights to interfere, the Big Dipper and constellations were incredibly clear. Sounds of crickets and tree frogs lulled us to sleep, and an occasional coyote cry could be heard in the distance.
Peace and tranquility abound here–all part of the magic of a Temecula wine country weekend getaway.
