I fully admit that I’m a loyal fan of Marriott. I have platinum status through their rewards program, Marriott Bonvoy, and am also a Marriott Vacation Club Presidential Tier owner. Though the company has expanded and brought hotel brands Westin and Sheraton under its umbrella, I’ve always found that the Marriott brand delivers a certain level of class, quality, and customer service guests can expect, especially when staying in its more upscale brands.

One of my favorite places to stay in the San Diego area is the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina. As the name reveals, the newly renovated hotel is located right on the San Diego Bay with stunning views of the marina, the iconic Coronado Bridge, the historic and vibrant Gaslamp Quarter and Petco Park, home to the San Diego Padres.

The hotel’s convenient location makes it easy to walk to our favorite restaurants located only a few blocks from the property. And it’s only a ten-minute stroll to Seaport Village, San Diego’s charming waterfront shopping and dining complex with cobblestone pathways along the edge of the Bay.

Each Marriott beach-inspired accommodation offers bayside or impressive city views. Guests can select either a 2-queen or king room or suite, some which include a balcony. Coastal hues and organic textures blend beautifully with dark metal finishes.

Corner rooms offer both water and city views. Executive Suites provide added spaciousness with a separate living room along with even more stunning views from your private balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Two stunning and expansive free form outdoor pools (one adults-only) along with a children’s pool and whirlpool are surrounded by lush vegetation, tropical landscaping, tall palm trees, manicured green areas, flowing water features, gentle streams, and waterfalls. The pools alone are a reason to book a stay.

There’s an abundance of lounge chairs and umbrellas surrounding the pool and private cabanas are available to rent. The grounds also feature cozy fire pits, plentiful lounge seating, and an on-deck bar and poolside service—think cocktails in the sun, with a fun and festive coastal ambiance.

The hotel offers an impressive full-service fitness room open 24/7 with a spacious layout, modern equipment, and views that overlook the adjacent pool area. Fitness classes are complimentary for guests and include yoga, spinning, kickboxing, and Zumba, some with live instructors and others on-demand on a large screen.

The hotel’s day spa, The Hideaway by Exquisite Massage & Skincare, offers three private treatment rooms and a couple’s room with a range of massages, facials, body scrubs, detox wraps, and tailored treatments lasting from 35 to 90 minutes.

Post-treatment, guests can continue to unwind in the serene Relaxation Room, complete with cozy seating, soothing music, signature teas, and infused waters.

Golf aficionados can take a swing on the virtual fairway at one of the resort’s Topgolf Swing Suites for an extra charge. This interactive experience is the ultimate entertainment for groups, allowing for a variety of virtual games, including Zombie Dodgeball, baseball, football, hockey, and of course – rounds of golf.

Bike rentals are also available from the resort, the ideal way to enjoy the picturesque marina boardwalk.

Dining/Drinking Options

Award-winning Marina Kitchen Restaurant & Bar has reinvented comfort food and features creative takes on American favorites along with a popular buffet breakfast. The bayside restaurant overlooking the lush grounds is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Lunch menu items included starters, knife and fork selections, salads, handhelds, and desserts. On our afternoon visit, my husband and I enjoyed sharing and swapping the Fish and Chips, made with Chilean sea bass, an Old Bay remoulade, charred lemon and a malt vinegar powder and Ribeye Bao Tacos with grilled prime ribeye, Japanese barbecue sauce, sesame seed, crispy shallots, and micro cilantro.

Marina Bar serves hand crafted cocktail or local beers and Agave Bar & Grill is the hotel’s outdoor poolside oasis with Baja Cali-inspired dishes, margaritas and other fun libations.

San Diego Experiences

The concierge team in the lobby is extremely helpful with advice and booking local adventures in ‘America’s Finest City.’ Guests can discover the best of San Diego with exclusive offers on top attractions and tours. These include visits to the USS Midway Museum, San Diego Zoo, and SeaWorld, or exploring renowned spots like Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

The Hop-on, hop-off Old Town Trolley Tour is a great way to take in many of the area’s most beloved sights and the unique SEAL Amphibious Tour is popular with travelers.

Though guests have access to many choices of waterfront hotels in downtown San Diego, it’s almost impossible to beat the picturesque views, comfort, ambiance, service and location of the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina. It’s a great place to stay, play and dine.
