Beach, mountain or historic city lover. Which one are you?
We all have our favorite types of vacations, but sometimes it’s nice to throw in a curve ball and do something different. I am a beach person, but I also love a cozy mountain retreat or getaway to one of my favorite Southern cities like Charleston or New Orleans for a change of pace.
If you’re looking for a place to celebrate Valentine’s Day, or any other romantic occasion like an engagement or anniversary, I’ve got you covered with this selection of vacation rentals.
Sonder St. Helene: New Orleans
This historic home is filled with Southern charm from its wrought iron balconies and hand-painted window shutters to a stunning lobby, French doors and a redbrick courtyard pool and garden area.
The one-bedroom, one-bathroom is cozy, tastefully decorated, and quite a value considering you’re in a prime location a mere three-minute walk to Bourbon Street and five minutes to picturesque Canal Street.
Surrounded by History: Charleston, S.C. Gem
Guests will have access to an entire first floor of this gorgeous remodel in the heart of Charleston’s historic district. You’ll have all the amenities of a boutique hotel with the added convenience of a full chef-ready kitchen with parking included.
The apartment includes hardwood floors, a custom kitchen, a refurbished claw foot tub and two separate porches. Everything about this 1.5-bedroom, two-bath rental is charming…so charming, you may never want to leave.
Treetop Deck: Vintage Austin, TX
Situated in one of Austin’s most appealing, walkable, and convenient vintage neighborhoods nestled among centuries-old live oaks, this one-bedroom, one-bath guest home is great.
An open landing in the home leads to a screened deck high up in the treetops. The interior features French doors to combine the living area and deck along with high ceilings, white oak hardwood floors, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, contemporary furnishings, and an abundance of natural lighting.
The area is a mix of treasured vintage cottages, historic mansions, restored ramblers, and sleek modern structures. What an ideal home base to explore Austin’s unique vibe.
Creekside Story Book Cottage: Sevierville, TN
Situated among five secluded acres of lush forests in the Smoky Mountain National Park, this quaint fairy tale cottage has to be one of the cutest properties I’ve ever seen.
The two-bedroom, one-bath hamlet can sleep four (if you want to bring along stragglers) though you’ll have your own privacy as the master bedroom is located on the ground floor and the second bedroom is in a bright, airy loft that opens up to the living room.
The vacation home offers an outdoor covered gazebo with a movie theater under the stars, a hot tub, and a place to build a bonfire.
Love a mountain stream? You can check that off your list as a bubbling stream with waterfalls surrounds the entire property.
Sunset Cliffs Condo: San Diego, CA
Don’t let anyone tell you it’s not about the views.
If you’re coming to a beach town like San Diego, you’ll want those views.
Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach is renowned for its eclectic vibe, but most notably for its stunning sunsets. You’ll get to witness that splendor with a stay at this two-bedroom, two-bath condominium directly fronting the ocean. In addition, you can explore one of San Diego’s best tidepool areas located just below the property and fall asleep to the waves crashing.
Tastefully decorated with ocean-inspired décor that doesn’t try to compete with the area’s natural beauty, one of the property’s best features is its outdoor deck with amazing Pacific Ocean views. This is the place to share a bottle of wine!
Boulder Creek Cabin Studio Escape: Boulder, CO
A creek, a fireplace, and a rustic cabin. Does it get any more romantic than this? And, it’s a great value, to boot.
This half-cabin tucked along the walls of Boulder Canyon on Boulder Creek is the ideal peaceful retreat just six miles from vibrant downtown Boulder. The cabin is divided into two private studio apartments, each with its own private entrance, set in a wooded area with gardens, a wood stove for campfires and outdoor cooking, and direct access to Boulder Creek.
Outdoor enthusiasts will love the opportunities for fly fishing, swimming, skiing, cycling and mountain biking, tubing, kayaking and hiking.
Seaglass Oceanfront Condo: Amelia Island, FL
This amazing oceanfront condo exudes southern coastal charm with a laid-back chilled ambiance. Located on picturesque Summer Beach between the Ritz Carlton and Omni Resort, the spectacular one-bedroom, one-bath property sits within a lush coastal hammock forest with protective sand dunes.
From carefully selected décor to the awe-inspiring unobstructed ocean views from every room, Seaglass couldn’t be a better choice for a romantic getaway.
The private balcony is great for watching the sunrise with morning coffee and views of dolphins frolicking in the ocean waves.
Casita De Los Santos: Sedona, AZ
Sedona is one of the world’s most well-known energy vortex destinations. Whether you’re into that or not, it’s always been one of my husband’s and my favorite places for a long weekend getaway. Why? Because it’s stunningly beautiful!
Casita De Los Santos, “House of the Saints,” offers spectacular red rock and sunset views, privacy, and serenity in highly coveted West Sedona. The one-bedroom, one-bath casita’s furnishings fit the area to a T and guests will love sharing wine by the fireplace or in the outdoor hot spring tub with massage jets under crystal-clear starlit nights. And imagine waking up to the sight of hot air balloons in the morning.
The location couldn’t be more ideal for exploring the natural wonders of Sedona. The popular hiking trails of Coffee Pot, Chimney Rock and Sugarloaf Mountain are just a short walk from the casita.
California Bungalow Near Downtown Square: Paso Robles, CA
Though my husband and I love Napa and Sonoma wine countries, one of our favorites, hands down, is Paso Robles, the wine country of California’s Central Coast.
Known for its picturesque rolling hills, vineyards, and warm Mediterranean climate, Paso Robles offers a delightful escape for anyone seeking a relaxed and scenic getaway. If you find the right place to stay, it sets the stage for an absolutely magical romantic weekend (or weekday for that matter) trip.
This newly renovated one-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage is situated in the heart of Paso Robles, just a few short blocks from the gazebo park, downtown restaurants, bars, tasting rooms and nightlife.
The bungalow is magnificently appointed, along with offering a spacious backyard with a private outdoor BBQ grill and firepit.
Being a frequent visitor to Paso Robles, I can attest that this location is ideal for a laid-back, relaxed and enchanted escape.
La Posada de Taos Casita: Taos, NM
If you’ve been to Albuquerque and Santa Fe, you know these Southwestern destinations offer a unique travel experience. If you haven’t been to Taos, you don’t know what you’re missing.
D. H. Lawrence once described Taos as a “state of mind.” As one of New Mexico’s most fascinating towns, Taos fittingly embraces the state’s motto as the “Land of Enchantment.”
Life forces flow down from its high peaks and well up from its deep canyons. Blessed with clean air, rich spiritual traditions, natural beauty and a unique blend of cultures, Taos’ mystical magic draws visitors like moths to a flame.
If you’re looking for a place to stay that exudes Southwestern charm and ambiance, check out La Posada de Taos, a casita vacation rental just two blocks from the colorful Taos Plaza with incredible local restaurants, museums and art galleries.
The one-bedroom, one-bath is a renovated historic adobe structure with wood-beamed ceilings, hand-carved furniture, and local and national art and artifacts. Rooms are decorated in a romantic Southwestern style and guests will appreciate the private patio and lush courtyard on the property.
