There’s something special about cottages. They emanate warmth, comfort, and welcome, and provide a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Each offers its own unique charm.

Whether that cottage is located on an ocean shore, in an exotic rainforest, or surrounded by picturesque mountains, it brings out the romantic side in each of us and beckons us to slow it down and drink in the charm and beauty of our surroundings.

We’ve pulled together some of our favorite romantic cottages across the U.S. that would make for a sweet reprieve.

This studio cottage with its beach-themed décor is a great place for a romantic getaway. The one-bedroom, one-bath can sleep four with a queen-sized bed in the loft area and a convertible full-size sleeper sofa in the living room.

The open-concept floor plan allows for natural lighting with an airy, relaxed feel. Located in a quiet yet central area of town, Sea Breeze is only a 10-minute walk to the beach.

You can get really cozy in this 300-square-foot treetops studio retreat on Hawaii’s Big Island. The one-bedroom, one-bath sleeps two and you’ll love the indoor/outdoor shower option.

The custom-designed tree cottage with a pitch-pined ceiling and hardwood floors is beautifully appointed and offers a top-level lanai off the living area for viewing the unique local flora of the rainforest.

18th Century Stone Cottage: Middleburg, VA

Originally used as a smokehouse and subsequently as a schoolhouse, this 18th-century structure was recently renovated to create the perfect blend of luxury and rustic charm. Stone walls, exposed oak beams original to the home and a stone patio and outdoor fireplace set the tone for an amazing getaway experience, and then you have the stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains to boot.

Situated on seven acres, the one-bedroom, one-bath vacation rental is just minutes from Middleburg, in the heart of horse and wine country and only an hour from Washington, D.C.

Whimsical Beach Cottage: San Diego, CA

This delightful 1940s cottage is located in my hometown of San Diego in the iconic beach town of Ocean Beach. You’ll have plenty of privacy in your one-bedroom, one-bath rental and yet only be one block from the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean.

The beach cottage can sleep up to four guests with a king bed and full-sized convertible sleeper sofa. And don’t forget your complimentary beach gear which includes two chairs, an umbrella, a cooler and a  wagon to haul it all in.

Quaint Private Cottage: Mount Dora, FL

Le Petit Suite is a private secluded 500-square-foot cottage surrounded by 100-year-old oak trees and situated just a half mile from the historic downtown. The secluded outdoor back deck features Adirondack chairs, an umbrella, BBQ grill and firepit.

The one-bed, one-bath cottage can accommodate two guests and offers a king-sized bed and everything you need for your stay. Continental breakfast and coffee are provided and guests are greeted with a complimentary bottle of wine.

Cottage with Waterfalls: Waterfall, Asheville, NC

Guests are only a five-minute walk to the stunning Grove Park Inn and a little over a mile to downtown Asheville at this newly renovated 1913 cottage with period features yet modern amenities.

The one-bedroom, one-bath historic home offers a fireplace and a private deck for viewing the 12-foot waterfall. Guests will love the sweet touch of a complimentary bottle of wine to be shared in the cottage’s park-like setting. You’ll also appreciate the relaxing hammock, picnic table and grills available on the property.

Treehouse Cottage on Flower Farm: Chattanooga, TN

This is an idyllic treehouse for a rustic romantic getaway. Not only does the treehouse sport a vintage soul with antiques and Bohemian inspirations, but the one-bedroom, one-bath that sleeps two with a loft and spiral staircase also offers incredible Lookout Mountain views.

Nestled on 70 acres, the farm stay also offers optional upgrades such as a goat visit, bonfires and flower bouquets from their beautiful gardens.

Storybook House: Lyons, IN

Though this is a two-bedroom cottage with a loft that can sleep six with three queen beds, it looks like it comes straight out of a storybook, hence the name.

Storybook House, located in the little town of Lyons, features a fantasy theme with a gargoyle even greeting you on the rooftop, and the fairy tale theme continues throughout the home.

Creekside Post & Beam Stone Cottage: Hot Springs, NC

This lovely post and beam, stone and cedar shake cottage is located on the banks of Spring Creek in the quaint North Carolina town of Hot Springs.

The cottage sleeps two in a large bedroom loft with a king-sized bed that includes one bathroom. Who can pass on a Jacuzzi tub on a wraparound deck with views over a rushing creek? It doesn’t get any better than this. And just below the cottage, guests will find one of the best swimming holes in the area along with fishing, if you’re into that. In addition, the cottage is only a five-minute walk into downtown Hot Springs and the Appalachian Trail.

Cottage Creek Vineyards: Morgan Hill, CA

There’s nothing like a stay in wine country to set the mood for a romantic getaway, and this lovely 1,000-square-foot one-bedroom, one-bath cottage provides the ideal home base for a Santa Clara Valley wine adventure.

The charming cottage offers great views including a creek off the balcony deck, and is close to hiking, wine tasting, great food, shopping and the stunning South County Wine Trail located on California’s picturesque Central Coast between San Francisco and Monterey Bay.

The Treehouse: Terell, TX

Have you ever wanted to sleep in a treehouse? Bring back your childhood dreams and stay in this magical one-bedroom lofty escape for two located less than an hour from Dallas.

You’ll have to cuddle close in a full-size bed but when awake you’ll appreciate the amenities which include coffee on the house, a small refrigerator, microwave and complimentary firewood for the outdoor firepit.

The rustic ambiance of the treehouse is a delight and it will be an experience you’ll want to share with others. Or maybe not.
