When you mention Lake Tahoe, many travelers tend to think of winter skiing, snowboarding and sledding. While this incredibly picturesque area is indeed an absolute winter wonderland, Lake Tahoe is a year-round playground for outdoor enthusiasts. No matter when you visit, the Marriott at Lake Tahoe is the best place to stay.
Our family of four found that autumn was a magnificent time to enjoy the alpine splendor and leaf color changes of South Lake Tahoe in Northern California at the base of Heavenly Ski Basin in the Eldorado National Forest.
We loved waking up to cool, clear mornings and hiking, kayaking and enjoying outdoor activities in its sunny afternoons.
While Tahoe is also known for its bustling South Shore with casinos, resorts and nightlife, scenic North Shore, just over the Nevada side, is renowned for its hiking, skiing and wildlife.

Friends of ours love coming in the summer when their kids are out of school, and others are fond of the spring as the snow begins to melt and the meadow flowers begin showing their colors. No matter when travelers come, Lake Tahoe is always teeming with activity.
You won’t find a more pristine lake – the largest alpine lake and second deepest in North America – with its stunning multi-colored waters.
Though our family has stayed at other destinations in the Lake Tahoe area, nothing compared to our experience at the magnificent Marriott Grand Residence Club in the heart of South Lake Tahoe. Just checking in to the Marriott at Lake Tahoe lobby with its vaulted-ceiling, rustic wood and stone walls, leather sofas and blazing fireplace was a treat.
It’s a splendid place that immediately made us feel at home.
Marriott Grand Residences Lake Tahoe
Even though it’s a vacation club, guests can choose their own length of stay from one-night to a week or longer, based on availability. Accommodations range from guest rooms and studios to one, two, and three-bedroom residences, bi-level lofts, and a penthouse.
We booked a beautifully appointed 1100-square foot two-bedroom, two-bath residence for our family of four adults which was perfect for our needs; the residence could sleep six. It had the ideal mountain and rustic touches while still maintaining a luxury, but laid-back feel.
The master bedroom sported a king bed, the second bedroom, two queens. Each had a separate full bath. The living room/sitting area also featured a pull-out sofa bed and fireplace, and the villa contained a full kitchen and dining room.

Aside from a fully furnished villa with all the amenities you’d expect, the Marriott at Lake Tahoe resort features complimentary Wi-Fi and no resort fees.
A large heated outdoor pool with two whirlpools and a large firepit offers plenty of seating. The Serenity Spa’s tranquil setting is ideal for rejuvenating massages, facials and other treatments. This is more than welcome after coming off the slopes or a day of hiking or kayaking in the Lake Tahoe area.
Cardio and strength equipment are available in the fitness center.

Heavenly Village in Lake Tahoe
Situated in South Lake Tahoe’s picturesque Heavenly Village, the resort is easily accessible to restaurants, breweries and shops. There are also several grocery stores to choose from for those who like to have breakfast, snacks or other meals in their villa for more convenience.
Whether you’re here in the winter or another season, you can hop on the Heavenly Village Gondola and take a 2.4-mile ride up the mountain. A stop at the observation deck provides panoramic views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Ski areas, boating, water sports, hot springs, hiking, biking, golf and mini golf are all within driving distance.
Marriott’s Timber Lodge at Lake Tahoe
While staying at the resort, our family also decided to check out Marriott’s sister vacation club property: Marriott’s Timber Lodge at Lake Tahoe.
Located just around the corner from the Marriott Grand Residences Lake Tahoe, this lovely resort is another great choice due to its location and the same amenities as Grand Residences Club. Grand Residences has 311 rooms while Timber Lodge has 264.
Another incredible choice for those heading for a Lake Tahoe vacation.

As the valet pulled up with our vehicle at the end of our week-long stay, he asked how our vacation went. We explained how much our family enjoyed Lake Tahoe and with a wink and a big smile he said “Don’t forget to come back and see us. Next time maybe in the winter. It’s magical.”
One thing is certain, whether it’s the winter season when we return, another visit in the autumn, or a spring or summer trip, we’ll definitely want to stay at Marriott’s Grand Residences Lake Tahoe.
The laid-back luxury and natural setting of the resort, friendly staff and ideal location made for a memorable vacation we truly enjoyed.
