About Leonora Carrington
Born in 1917 in Lancashire, England, Leonora never chose to be an artist. With a set of watercolors her mother gave her as a child, painting chose Leonora. She studied drawing and painting in Florence and London and later abandoned it all and go to Paris at the age of 20, where surrealism caught her and baptized her as “The Bride of the Wind.”
In 1941, the Mexican poet Renato Leduc brought her to Mexico where Leonora found her place. She met Edward James who supported her financially, married the Hungarian photographer Chiki Weisz, and had her sons Pablo and Gabriel.
In Mexico, the country she called her true home, she developed her artistic splendor and spent the next 70 years creating her marvelous surrealist art in painting, sculpture, graphics, textiles, and jewelry. Leonora died at the age of 94 in Mexico City.
With this important artistic intervention, Grupo Presidente is honored to celebrate 12 years of the creation of the program Hospedarte, an initiative of Braulio Arsuaga Losada, CEO of Grupo Presidente, with the purpose of boosting both well-known artists as well as emerging ones to bring their guests closer contact with art.
