A small barrier island on the Eastern Coast of the U.S., Tybee Island is at the easternmost point in Georgia, 18 miles east of Savannah.

The island is a popular vacation destination known for its stunning beaches, historic sites, and vibrant community. Though the island has a humid subtropical climate, visitors can head to the beaches for sunbathing and water sports.

My family also enjoys the welcoming community of locals, the relaxed beach-town atmosphere, the commitment to conservation initiatives and sustainable practices, and the variety of restaurants that serve up our favorite fresh seafood dishes.

Kayaking, paddleboarding and fishing are popular outdoor activities and dolphin-watching tours are a favorite with island visitors.

Tybee Island offers a range of accommodation options, but when we travel to a beach for a family trip, we prefer staying in a vacation rental. Here are options we recommend to make your next family vacation to Tybee Island fun and memorable.

One-of-a-Kind Oceanfront Trolley Home

This has to be one of the most unique beach houses on Tybee Island due to its clever, imaginative design. The 3-bedroom, 3-bath cottage built around an old-fashioned trolley can sleep up to six and offers stunning dune views.

The décor is picture-perfect beach-inspired. Rooms offer one king, one queen with an alcove and two twins in the third room.

This charming and quaint cottage with a delightful tin roof, beadboard wall, white picket fence, and lovely lanai creates a practically perfect picturesque setting for an amazing beach stay.

The 3-bedroom, 1-bath home can accommodate five persons. The property also features a charming guest house with a king bed and you’ll have access to a pool.

Twin Palms Cottage

If you’re looking for a romantic getaway for two, this 1-bedroom, 1-bath cottage is a wonderful choice. The cottage is nestled under rustling twin palms, and you’re just steps to beautiful Black River Beach, a fishing pier, restaurants, barefoot strolls in the sand and breathtaking sunsets.

New York Times bestselling author Mary Kay Andrews chose to stay in this cottage while writing several of her books and later purchased two of her own homes on the island.  Whether you’re looking for inspiration or total relaxation, Twin Palms awaits your arrival.

Pink Pearl by the Sea

This 8-bedroom house on South Tybee couldn’t be more perfect for a large group of family or friends vacationing together. The vacation rental also offers five full bathrooms and can sleep up to 18.

Guests have access to an exclusive heated resort pool and a 5-minute walk to the beach with proximity to restaurants and boutique shops.

You’ll want to gather the cooks in your party together to prepare meals in the home’s incredibly impressive kitchen. This place is absolutely gorgeous!

Not only do you have ringside ocean seats but also access to the resort complex’s two pools. Guests will appreciate being just across the street from Memorial Park featuring volleyball courts and basketball and tennis courts.

At this vacation rental, you’ll be staying in a brand-new home while enjoying ocean views and a private pool in a 5-bedroom, 5.5-bath beach house that sleeps 12. This place is ideal for a family or group of friends getting together for a vacation getaway.

You’re also just across the way from some of Tybee Island’s most sought-after amenities and activities which include Jaycee Park with a new playground, walking trails, popular restaurants and a theater. When you divide up the cost of this vacation rental, guarantee you’ll be paying less than a hotel room but have all the privacy, the beach and a swimming pool.

Lighthouse Point Beachfront

Located on the quiet north end of Tybee Island, this Lighthouse Point first-floor condo (one level up from the ground floor) offers 2-bedrooms and 2-baths mere steps from the beach and pool. Guests can enjoy views of the bay, ships and shrimp boats from a private balcony, not to mention greeting the sunrise with a cup of coffee.

The master bedroom features a queen bed and the second bedroom two twins, a great stay option for a family of four.

Historic Raised Tybee Cottage

This place is “Oh so Tybee” and what you think a quintessential beach vacation home should be. The 2-bedroom, 2-bath home with an outdoor shower can sleep up to five guests and is located on a quiet residential street. Many of the original details of the home remain such as beadboard walls, pine floors and even a claw foot tub. And the rental includes a screened-in porch and deck.

Not only are you surrounded by history, but just a five-minute walk to two local beaches and the historic Tybee Lighthouse.

Oceanfront Home with Panoramic Views

This amazingly beautiful newly-renovated oceanfront home situated on Tybee Island’s south end offers incredible ocean vistas.

The 2-story, 2-bedroom, 2-bath property can accommodate seven guests and is lovingly decorated to complement its picturesque natural surroundings. You’ll be happy to arrive, but so very sad to leave.
