Seasons of Amelia Island
Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach are located in the very northeastern corner of Florida along the Atlantic Ocean and border with Georgia. As such, December, January and February can be chilly – highs in the 50s are common – but just as often you’ll have sunny warm days in the 70s.
Spring – February, March and April – is a delight, as is fall – October and November.
The summer is long and hot, but sea breezes and dips in the ocean take the edge off.
Natural Splendor

This Florida beach house for rent goes the extra mile in protecting the property’s dune, which protects the property from storms. Amelia Island has one of the best protected dune systems on the East Coast, making it one of the least likely locations in Florida to experience property damage from seaside storm surge.
The property owner has worked with the local Florida Native Plant Society chapter to install native plants throughout the dune which are a delight for visitors who see bursts of color from dune sunflower, bee balm, wild poinsettia, scarlet sage, seaside goldenrod, Spanish needle, muhly grass and others. The plants are pollinators, attracting butterflies, and anchor the dune through their deep root systems.
Keep an eye out for threatened gopher tortoises burrowing in the back yard dune. They’re tortoises, not turtles, so don’t put them in the water! Amelia Island is a hotspot for nesting sea turtles, so keep an eye out for them and their nests on the beach from May through October.

What to do on Amelia Island
From special events to golf, fishing, beachcombing, nature walks, birding, sunbathing, shopping in the historic Victorian downtown of Fernandina Beach, fine and casual dining, you’ll have no shortage of things to do on your Amelia Island vacation. Enjoy a private boat tour of the island or a walking beach tour to learn why this is called “The Isle of Eight Flags.”
The owner/operators of TravelByVacationRental.com live in Fernandina Beach and give this Florida beach house for rent our highest recommendation!
