Summer is a super fun time of year with most schools on break and families vacationing at their favorite destinations. Beach and mountain trips are extremely popular, as our lake vacations.
With some parts of the U.S. coping with extreme heat, humidity, and mosquitos, my recommendation for summer relief: Lake Tahoe in northern California. Lake Tahoe vacation with a selection of vacation rentals ranging from rustic cabins to luxury lakefront jewels.
Though Lake Tahoe is renowned as a winter ski destination, our family has vacationed here in the summer and fall seasons and left with incredible memories of this mountain paradise. It’s hard to beat the views, Mother Nature at her finest, and the myriad of activities available to the adventure traveler.
Here are some of our favorite vacation rentals for chilling and escaping the stifling summer heat though they would be awesome places to stay no matter when you visit.
Eagles Perch Cabin
Not only does this stunning vacation rental offer panoramic lake views, but it is also dog-friendly. Located on a private road in Carnelian Bay, North Lake Tahoe, the four-bedroom, two-bath cabin can sleep eight offering 1,700 square feet of living space.
The large exterior redwood deck with cathedral ceilings, a rock wood-burning fireplace and ample parking overlooks the water and is a perfect home and location for a family or group of friends.
Lake Views and a Hot Tub
Situated in South Lake Tahoe, this three-bedroom, two-bath rustic vacation home can sleep up to six guests. Enjoy the water views from a private deck yet be only a ½-minute walk to the lake and five minutes to the shops and restaurants of South Tahoe.
You’ll love having your own hot tub surrounded by the majesty of nature, and the vacation rental also includes the use of bikes and paddle boards. The property also boasts a fire pit and a 15,000-square-foot fenced yard.
Rustic Cabin with Views from Every Room
If you’re into rustic, you’ll love this cozy 1947 cabin with two bedrooms and one bath. Guests have direct access to a deck, hot tub and grill and you’ll find incredible views of the lake from every room of the property. With the addition of a queen-size sofa bed in the living room, the vacation rental can accommodate up to six guests. The fenced yard is ideal for bringing along your furry friend.
The cabin comes with two pairs of snow shoes, two giant mountain bikes, two kayaks, a large beach cart and beach chairs.

Located in the heart of South Lake Tahoe, this one-bedroom, two-bath condo with an additional loft space that includes a twin and double bed is ideal for a small family or group of friends.
The upstairs-located condo unit also features a bonus room set up with a kids’ table for playing games. We love the décor, the ambiance, and of course…those stunning crystalline azure lake views.
Tahoe Beachfront Retreat with Unobstructed Views
If you’re looking for more breathing room, this gorgeous North Lake Tahoe vacation property offers stunning unobstructed lake views with three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and yet only steps to dining and Kings Beach.
The 1,644-square-foot condo can sleep up to six guests, allowing for their own room and private space. Guests will love the roped-off private beach with communal lounge chairs and grills. The home offers vaulted ceilings and stunning lake and Sierra Mountain vistas from the great room windows. This really is a beautiful property.
Sweetbriar Lakefront Townhouse
This dazzling two-story North Lake Tahoe vacation rental is great for an anytime escape. The waterfront townhome offers three bedrooms, two-and-a-half baths, a hot tub, a lakefront deck equipped with two loungers, a patio table and chairs and a gas barbeque. The master bath includes a Jacuzzi tub.
Guests will love having the gas fireplace on chilly days and waking up each morning to sweeping lake views. Adventure lovers will delight in beach walks, kayaking, paddling, hiking a pristine Tahoe mountain trail and skiing.
Magnificent Meeks Bay Waterfront Home
This is a place you will not want to leave. And, you’ll find it to be ideal for a family or friend reunion. The vacation home features four bedrooms, three bathrooms and amenities that include a shared dock, private buoy and two decks. The picturesque property also boasts a hot tub and since it’s right on the lake, it’s ideal for boating, fishing, kayaking and rafting. A walking trail is just off the property.
In winter guests can enjoy skiing, snowshoeing, sledding and other outdoor activities.
Honeymoon Lodge Condo
You’ll get amazing lake views and great sunsets from this gorgeous condo in Heavenly, South Lake Tahoe. The two-bedroom, two-bath vacation rental can sleep up to six guests. The first bedroom off the living room has a queen-size bed and private bath. The second bedroom in the loft features two queen beds and a full private bath. If you’re here during the chillier times of year (my favorite), you’ll appreciate the living room fireplace surrounded by comfy seating.
Whether you choose to visit to beat the summer heat or come to this mountain nirvana during another season, you’ll be sure to fall in love with Lake Tahoe’s stunning natural beauty, clear deep azure waters and the impressive surrounding mountain scenery. This is paradise.
