A captivating island located in the heart of the Pacific Ocean, Maui beckons travelers with its alluring blend of natural wonders, cultural richness, and laid-back charm.

Known as the “Valley Isle,” Maui is the second-largest of the Hawaiian Islands, and boasts a diverse landscape that ranges from lush rainforests and cascading waterfalls to pristine beaches and volcanic craters. Its cultural tapestry is woven with the stories of ancient Polynesians, whose seafaring spirit brought them to this paradisiacal haven centuries ago. Today, Maui welcomes visitors with open arms, offering a unique blend of adventure and relaxation amid its breathtaking scenery.

After the deadly Maui fires that almost completely destroyed the town of Lahaina, Maui is back in business and inviting guests to once again experience the spirit of aloha on this magnificent island.

As frequent travelers to Maui, my family and I choose to stay at the Marriott’s Maui Ocean Club near Lahaina. But for those who are not tapped into the Marriott ownership and point system, these rentals can cost a pretty penny.

The good news is that there are other vacation rentals you can find throughout the island and the ones that we’re highlighting here are still in business and will cost you less than you’d typically pay for a nice hotel in a prime location. These rentals offer great locations, without the heavy accompanying price tag.

Hale Manu Mele offers a two-bedroom one one-bath cottage with an outside shower that can sleep up to four guests. The home is owned by a Hawaiian-born and raised local who lives in the main house on a one-acre property. You’ll love the island-inspired décor along with an outdoor pavilion, heated pool, and pool deck with a water slide and waterfall.

The sunny Wailea location couldn’t be more ideal with the picturesque Ulua Beach Park and Keawakapu Beach North a mere four-minute drive from the cottage.

Adorable Old Hawaii Cottage in Maui’s North Shore

Maui’s North Shore is renowned for its windsurfing, kiting, and other beach activities.

This charming Hawaiian-style cottage located in the quintessential town of Paia is nestled within a private garden in one of the area’s coolest jive neighborhoods.

The cottage features two bedrooms (each with a queen bed), a full bath, and a second half-bath in the laundry room along with an outdoor shower. You’ll love the private yard and proximity to beautiful Baldwin Beach and the eclectic shops of downtown Paia, one of our favorite areas of Maui to explore.

Beach towels, beach chairs and a cooler are complimentary.

This one-bedroom, one-bath cottage located on the upper floor sleeps two, and while it may seem a little on the pricier side, I can assure you that what you’re getting here is worth every dollar spent.

Honu’ea Cottage is named for the endangered turtles that come to nest on the sandy shores fronting the property. Located on an acre of lush landscaped grounds, the cottage offers total unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean.

The master bedroom includes a king-sized bed and you’ll love the beachfront lanai with outdoor seating and a BBQ should you choose to cook up some quality local seafood or treasures from the land.

The best time to visit Maui for whale watching is in February at the peak of the whale season. The Maui humpback whale season runs from December to March, but you’ll still get plenty of sightings from November through April. And imagine, you can do this tropical drink in hand from the privacy of your own oceanfront lanai.

Vintage Cottage Near Hamoa Bay

This sweet Hawaiian plantation-style cottage is quintessential Maui.

The one-bedroom, one-bath that sleeps two guests was once a house manager’s home during the sugar cane plantation days, now lovingly restored yet retaining its historic detail. The cottage features warm tropical colors and is situated on a sprawling two-acre property surrounded by verdant lawns and tropical gardens.

Location is everything, given that the home is located just 20 minutes from world-famous Hamoa Beach and just three miles from historic Hana town, considered the most highly desired area of Hana.

Cottage Apartment in Tropical Setting

This newly remodeled 200-square-foot apartment is absolutely charming. It includes a private, separate entrance, deck and fire pit surrounded by a myriad of tropical plants and flowers. At night, guests will appreciate the solar lights on the patio and string lights in the yard.

Though the property located in Wailuku, Central Maui, does not have a view or beach access, the price reflects an extremely reasonable place to stay on an otherwise very expensive island. You’ll enjoy the privacy along with the sounds of chickens and roosters as your morning wake-up call and plenty of places to relax and unwind at this eclectic vacation rental.

South Maui Romantic Cottage Near the Beach

You’ll love this delightful cottage Bed and Breakfast with one bedroom and one bath in a tropical garden setting with stunning views of Haleakala Mountain.

The lovely cottage can sleep two guests and even includes an outdoor shower and though the rental isn’t located on the beach, some of the most stunning stretches of sand are only a 15-minute walk away.

The vacation rental provides complimentary boogie boards, beach mats, coolers, umbrella and beach chairs.

Private Cottage with Panoramic Ocean View

Whether you’re on your honeymoon or celebrating a special event or life itself, the unique Polynesian pole home offers stunning ocean, sunset, and coastal views.

The one-bedroom, one-bath haven overlooking a peaceful jungle gorge, a pristine countryside, and world-famous Ho’okipa Bay offers a king bed, tropical décor, a deep-soaking tub for two, side-by-side outdoor showers with a drenching rain shower head for a starlit outdoor experience.

Don’t be surprised when you get to fall asleep to the soothing sound of the waterfall and stream in the gorge right below the cottage.

The Hamoa Bay Bungalow is Hana, Maui’s most charming vacation hideaway. The Balinese-inspired one-bed, one-bath property features partial ocean views and is tucked among lush ferns, banana trees, bamboo, colorful flora, fragrant ginger, papaya, century-old trees and verdant manicured gardens.

Guests can treat themselves to a shower in your private lava rock-enclosed shower or enjoy a soak in the built-in tub for two on a screened veranda. It just doesn’t get any better than this.
