This small, scenic coastal city in northwest Oregon is known for its stunning beauty, iconic landmarks and relaxed, artsy vibe. Located about 90 miles west of Portland along the Pacific Ocean, Cannon Beach is an ideal getaway. It’s also perfect for those hoping to escape the summer heat, given that temperatures here range from the high 60s to low 70s with sunshine and clear bluebird skies.

Haystack Rock is Cannon Beach’s iconic site. Located just offshore, the 235-foot sea stack is popular for tide pooling and bird watching and puffins, yes, those cute tufted puffins who nest of the grassy top of the rock where they dig burrows. They arrive in late spring and stay through early August to breed and raise their chicks, then head back out to sea.

Other gems of Cannon Beach include the sunsets, wide, walkable sands perfect for long strolls, great kiting, beachcombing, dramatic cliffs, forested trails, and of course, those magnificent ocean views. The area is also great for hiking, picnicking, and spotting elk or whales during migration seasons.

If you’re looking for a summer escape, why not consider Cannon Beach and live a while like the locals, in a completely furnished vacation rental?
