How would you like to wake up on one of the most stunning beaches in the U.S? You can, as St. Pete Beach on Florida’s Gulf Coast has consistently won accolades as one of the nation’s top beaches.
As TripAdvisor’s number one ranking in 2021, the beach is described as, “a great walking beach with white quartz sand, clear calm water, and seashells by the truckload. The most perfect place to watch the sun set over the ocean.
Though my wife and I love both these properties and have stayed at the Rumfish Beach Resort, we were thrilled to find that Tradewinds has now added a new member to its family: Breckenridge Club, a full vacation club resort.
New Tradewinds Resort Vacation Club
One of the principal themes Breckenridge Club (owned and managed by BlueGreen Vacations) wanted to capture with this resort was retaining the essence of Old Florida’s charm.
The villas and seaside property reflect the Florida that perhaps not all of us have experienced, but guaranteed our parents and grandparents did on their road trips to the Sunshine State. I can attest, it definitely brings back memories of my family’s many trips to Florida as a child.
The ambiance here exudes a low-key vibe inviting guests to relax, slow down, unplug, unwind, and enjoy Mother Nature’s bounty in this picturesque region.
Nostalgia reigns supreme here capturing the essence of a bygone era.
About the Breckenridge Club in St. Pete
Slated for a grand opening in early 2024, the vacation club is currently under complete refurbishment taking over an existing waterfront resort hotel. Additionally, a brand-new tower building is in the plans which will offer even more space with full kitchen facilities.
Current, newly refurbished rooms with distinctive seaside touches and ocean-inspired artwork have morphed into studio, one, and two-bedroom vacation villas with modern amenities blending with a quintessential beach cottage décor. Some units also include a sofa bed and all offer a kitchenette.
The real treasure here is the view. Spectacular ocean vistas are standard from the living room/kitchen area, bedrooms and especially from the outdoor balcony. A vacation paradise for those of us who are beach lovers.
You’ll love the expansive white sands, sparkling tourmaline waters, and some of the most stunning sunsets you can imagine.
Resort Benefits and Amenities
One of the biggest advantages of getaways at vacation clubs within an existing resort community are the myriad of amenities available to guests. As part of the Tradewinds Resorts properties, vacation club travelers have access to all the activities and services that the other Tradewinds hotels offer.
These amenities include 40 beachfront acres for fun in the sea and sun, multiple pools with cabanas, fire pits surrounded by Adirondack chairs, a three-story inflatable High Tide Ocean slide with a Surf Wipeout experience, a floating ocean water park, multiple bars and restaurants, dive-in movies, a touch tank experience and a 33,500-gallon aquarium. The aquarium at Rumfish Grille was featured on Animal Planet’s hit show “Tanked.”
Guests also have access to a paddle boat experience through the meandering waterways of Island Grand and the Zing Ray Zip Line at Rumfish Beach Resort. Other activities include tennis, pickleball, shuffleboard, miniature golf, fitness centers, yoga classes, beach games, beach volleyball, family pirate shows and s’mores making.
For an extra fee, resort guests have access to stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, jet skis, banana boat rides and parasailing. A concierge service can also book diving, snorkeling, dolphin spotting, fishing tours and more.
Dining at the Resort
Though many travelers book vacation clubs for the ease and option of dining in during vacation, guests here have the choice of dining out when desired.
Tradewinds offers a variety of pool bars and restaurants and quick pick-ups, but the shining star of the resort complex is not only a favorite with travelers, but locals as well.
RumFish Grill, located at the Rumfish Beach Resort, is the ultimate “undersea” marine dining experience with its awe-inspiring 33,500-gallon aquarium housing a beautiful ecosystem of local species. Its residents include tarpon, grouper, yellowtail, angelfish, purple tang, an elusive moray eel, a manta ray and much more.
The menu is no less impressive. So impressive that my wife and I broke our rule of not dining in the same restaurant twice on vacation.
The menu is seafood-inspired though there are enough land choices to satisfy other palates. The servers are amazing and know the menu items like the back of their hand. Our favorite items included the Ahi, Crab & Avocado Stack with ahi tuna, fresh lump crab, avocado, tomato papaya-mango salsa and sweet chili sauce with taro chips.
If you’re a soup lover, don’t miss the Spiced Blue Crab Bisque with sherry, thyme, and cream. It’s filled with blue crab and creamy with the perfect amount of heat.
Everything Crusted Ahi Tuna is an absolute delight served with pineapple salsa, ginger-soy reduction, wasabi and pickled ginger served over black rice.
Make sure to save room for dessert as you’ll swoon over the patron favorite –that classic Florida key lime pie.
We’re looking forward to seeing the completion of the Breckenridge Club on our next visit to Florida’s magnificent Gulf Coast. It’s sure to be nothing short of spectacular.
NOTE: Visitors to St. Petersburg Beach from outside of Florida should be aware that the NAACP has issued a travel advisory for the state noting, and warning, that under its current governor, Ron DeSantis, Florida has “engaged in an all-out attack on Black Americans, accurate Black history, voting rights, members of the LGBTQ+ community, immigrants, women’s reproductive rights, and free speech, while simultaneously embracing a culture of fear, bullying, and intimidation by public officials.”
