Even though “Yellowstone” Season 5 wrapped in December 2024, there are rumors of a potential sixth season and a new untitled sequel series currently in development. Whether these plans come to fruition or not, we know the immensely popular series starring Kevin Costner created a surge of interest in this incredibly picturesque region with one of the most stunning national parks in America.
Yellowstone was established as the first national park in the world in 1872 with 2.2 million acres mostly in Wyoming, also spilling into Montana and Idaho. Located atop a super volcano, Yellowstone is known for its geothermal features including hot springs, mud pots, fumaroles, and especially geysers, Old Faithful being the most prominent in the world.
Yellowstone also embodies the spirit of the frontier – vast, wild, unpredictable, and awe inspiring. It became a symbol of the untamed West – a land of canyons and powerful wildlife, reinforcing the mythos of rugged independence and the cowboy ethos.
If you’re planning a trip to Yellowstone, we have recommendations on places providing an authentic feel of the region located near the north entrance of the national park. A drive of around 30 minutes will take you from these vacation rentals to Yellowstone.

The property is stunning and the lodge looks like something right out of the Yellowstone series.

Water House Two

Located just a half mile from The North Gate of Yellowstone in Gardiner, Montana and The Boiling River, the vacation rental has recently been remodeled and decorated to be comfortable, welcoming and stylish and offering amazing views of Yellowstone Park and Yellowstone River. The house was so-named because the original wooden water tower used to stand on the property until the 1960s and the original stone Pump House is situated just below on the river.
The two-bedroom, one bath can sleep four guests and is only 15 minutes to Mammoth Hot Springs and Yellowstone Hot Springs.
Rustic Log House
Tucked in the mountains at the “end of the road” in the old mining town of Jardine, Montana, this one-of-a-kind rustic log home filled with antiques and sporting a wildlife/western theme is only six miles from the north entrance to Yellowstone Park. The North Fork of Bear Creek is 100 yards below the cabin, a beautiful mountain stream with great fishing.
The house was built in 1994 with logs skidded out of the forest with a team of Percheron horses and peeled by hand. The two-bed, two-bath home loft home can accommodate up to six guests with convertible sofa beds.
Barnhouse at Slip & Slide Ranch
This historic ranch property has been owned by the Rigler family since 1908. Recently renovated, the home is surrounded by public land providing great hiking opportunities. Guests can relax on the front porch after a busy day in the park and watch bison graze in the meadow.
The three-bedroom, two-bath can sleep six and is ideal for a family. There’s a deck off the front and back of the home, a dining room with a large log table and chairs and a fireplace in the open space area.
Buttermilk Country Cabin

A ‘bear themed’ cabin is nestled in nature on a private 40+ acres with two other rental cabins nearby. The two-bedroom, two-bath cozy, rustic vacation home is located on a private pond (and yes, you can fish) with rodeo and horse rides on property every summer. An outdoor fire pit is ideal for making S’mores.
Just seven miles to the Yellowstone north entrance, the cabin location is perfect for snowmobilers in the winter as the main snow trails are located at the front of the property.
